What is a sound bath?

A sound bath isn't a bath, and there's no water involved. The name comes from what it feels like — being immersed in sound the way you'd be immersed in water. It surrounds you rather than something you listen to.

At The Still Room, that sound comes from crystal singing bowls. Each bowl is struck or played around its rim, producing a long, resonant tone that holds in the air far longer than you'd expect. Different bowls hold different tones. Played together, they layer into something closer to a wash of sound than individual notes.

You don't do anything during a sound bath. You lie down, get comfortable, and let the sound happen around you. There's no technique to learn and nothing to get right.

Most people find their mind settles faster here than it does elsewhere. Some people's thoughts wander for a while before quietening. Some people fall asleep. All of that is normal — a sound bath doesn't ask anything specific of you, and there's no version of it you can do wrong.

It isn't a treatment, and we won't tell you what it will do for you. What we can tell you is what happens in the room: an hour of sound, a place to lie still, and nothing else required of you.
